Who Is Mike Krieger?
Mike Krieger is a Brazilian-American software engineer and technology entrepreneur best known for co-founding Instagram with Kevin Systrom. His work helped shape how people share photographs and communicate through social media.
Born on September 4, 1984, in São Paulo, Brazil, Krieger later moved to the United States and attended Stanford University. He studied symbolic systems, an interdisciplinary subject combining areas such as computer science, psychology, linguistics, and philosophy.
Before Instagram, he worked as an engineer at Meebo, a messaging startup. This experience contributed to his development as a technology professional.
How Mike Krieger Built Instagram
Instagram began as an application called Burbn, which focused on location-based check-ins. Krieger and Systrom recognized that users particularly enjoyed its photo-sharing feature.
They simplified the original concept and launched Instagram in October 2010. The application allowed users to take photographs, apply filters, and share images with others.
As Instagram expanded rapidly, Krieger played an important role in its technical development as chief technology officer. His responsibilities included helping build and maintain the systems required to support the growing user base.
Facebook acquired Instagram in 2012 in a deal valued at approximately $1 billion in cash and stock. Krieger and Systrom continued working with the company before announcing their departures in 2018.
Mike Krieger’s Work After Instagram
After leaving Instagram, Krieger reunited with Systrom to develop Artifact, an application focused on personalized news discovery. The platform used artificial intelligence and machine learning to recommend stories according to users’ interests.
Artifact closed in early 2024 because its founders concluded that the market opportunity was not large enough to justify continued investment. Yahoo subsequently acquired Artifact’s technology in 2024.
Krieger joined Anthropic in 2024 as chief product officer. Anthropic develops artificial intelligence systems, including the Claude AI assistant. In January 2026, the company announced that Krieger would move to Anthropic Labs, where he would focus on experimental products and new applications of AI technology.
His career demonstrates a continued interest in developing digital products that address changing user needs.
Why Are Jessica Chastain and Mike Krieger Searched Together?
The search phrase Jessica Chastain and Mike Krieger may create the impression that the two individuals have a meaningful connection. However, the available information does not establish a direct personal or professional relationship.
Several factors may explain the pairing.
First, search engines sometimes display names together because users enter similar queries or explore related suggestions. Such results do not necessarily confirm a relationship.
Second, confusion may arise from the similarity between Mike Krieger’s first name and actor Michael Shannon, who has worked with Chastain.
Third, people often search for unfamiliar celebrity pairings simply to discover whether a connection exists. Repeated searches can make a combination of names more visible online without providing evidence of a real association.
Therefore, Jessica Chastain and Mike Krieger should be understood as two successful people whose careers developed in separate industries, rather than as confirmed partners or collaborators.
Is Jessica Chastain Connected to Michael Shannon?
Unlike Mike Krieger, Michael Shannon has a documented professional history with Chastain.
The two actors appeared together in Take Shelter in 2011. Shannon played Curtis LaForche, while Chastain portrayed his wife, Samantha. They later reunited for the television miniseries George & Tammy, in which Chastain played Tammy Wynette and Shannon portrayed George Jones.

Chastain has also worked with Oscar Isaac, whom she met at the Juilliard School. They appeared together in A Most Violent Year and the HBO miniseries Scenes from a Marriage.
